So, I've put this off long enough.
Back when I RP'd as Callisdrun, I used a modified version of the Norse pantheon that wasn't that much different, except with the addition of Ithtyr, who I always RP'd as being a much older goddess of mysterious origin, worshiped primarily by the moroii.
With the Batory Empire, I RP that the northwest provinces (which are basically Callisdrun) still have a Norse-esque set of gods, but I've also RP'd that the main pantheon would have developed differently with Ithtyr being the patron goddess of the ruling Batory clan, and that the central Empire might not necessarily view the gods in the same way as the northwestern provinces, and might use different, more archaic names for some of them. Some might be referred to mainly by title in the central Empire.
I've also got the idea of making a two-tiered system. Elder Gods, and Younger Gods.
Some (perhaps most) of the Elder Gods have been largely forgotten by the main point in time I'm RPing. The three that continue to be worshiped are:
Ithtyr: goddess of lust, vengeance, death, nature/earth, and mother figure to the moroii race, and aspected to darkness.
Wanderer: god of language (especially poetry and written word, now, though initially probably just language), war, hospitality, perhaps also justice and order, perhaps aspected to light.
Noyadon (worshiped as Njord in the northwestern provinces, Nodens elsewhere in the west): Pre-eminent sea and seafaring god. Aspected to water, obviously.
Before thinking of more gods, though, I think I need to decide what roles and aspects there should be. I have some further ideas on possibly a Hel-like deity that may have originally been a contemporary mythical figure to Ithtyr but became a goddess later as being aspected to shadow (in Batory mythology, Ithtyr is the goddess of death, but not goddess of the dead... the two roles are distinct). I was thinking of naming her Veaol, and making her among the oldest of the Younger Gods. Similarly, I was thinking perhaps of making a goddess Feregyn as a sort of mother/marriage/healing deity.
Thoughts?
(also, if anyone wants to use this space to further develop their own nation's religion/deities/etc., feel free).
